Yesterday, my land lady bought Samsung tab 3.
I was resting in my room when younger daughter of my land lady who studies in class 3rd returned home with his dad . They had gone for shopping in evening for something very special to them and the thing was – SAMSUNG Tab 3 !! She showed tab to me with hyper excitement and of course her whole family knew nothing about it, for example it needed micro sim to operate.
Well, that really made me think hard, where today’s culture is going , of course it is none of my business , they can afford it, they bought it and are happy, but we cannot neglect the tendency and up bringing parents are giving to kids in metro cities.
Of course to give you reason behind my concern are many.
My land lady lives with her two kids, one elder son , studies in class 4th and younger daughter, I mentioned above. She comes from some small village near Nagpur and is less educated, had got married at the age of 16 I suppose. Her husband is lecturer in some government poyltechical near in Malvan. She owns 2BHK in Mumbai, a nice car and other luxuries things at home. Her kids studies in a nice fancy school in vashi , she says she stay here, far from her husband for the sake of her kids education and development.
Now, why I am concern about buying them a tab3, right??
Well, each day she creeps about the daily expenses her kids makes her do, money for every day project they demand, to participate in competition, stuff they need to won those competition, preparing classes, dresses and much more, list is endless. Apart from the annual school fee and food expenses, she daily spends more than 500rs ( roughly might be more) on both of them , and one cannot imagine their tantrums say it in the mall or on the road.
Her daughter shouts all the time, insults her, lies to her, never go out to play but still get everything, and same is the case with the son. They have a nice PC in the house on which they spend hours.
This is the story of every house in Mumbai actually, now one fine day I carried my tab 2 to home and her kids saw that and started demanding for the thing. And now they have got it too, which her mother of course won’t use, actually doesn’t know how to use, her kids just going to play on that and she won’t even be able to supervise them as she doesn’t herself know about the technology, and her poor husband has got nothing. In fact, none of them need to have tablet, but still they own it for no reason.
Or may be the reason is mother’s effort to show off in the society, or maybe she wants her kids to have latest things and updated or god know the reason, but its arise a very important question that what Indian parents are doing with their kinds, actually with our kids?? Those kids going to grow up like that with no sense of money, or saving or importance of things, and one can imagine our future.
Those kids has no interest in music or talent for that matter and their mother forcefully puts them and takes them to classes, I don’t understand the logic at all, it just is serving her show off purpose nothing lease.
In the growing year, when I child understand the basic concept of life and develop his/her character which he forever going to keep in the society is just ruined now-a-days.
Giving, unnecessary expensive things in hand, not teaching them the root concepts and moral is how unfortunate we all are seeing at the moment.
India has only one thing to proud upon is , its culture and morals, which if we talk about moral, foreigner follows way more than us now, and parents now are failing in teaching kids basic good habits. Once parents knew everything about their kids, they get them best basic education at home it self, while eating, reading, talking or even sitting idle.
Kids had respect towards teachers, now Google just tell them information of everything but meaning of nothing. They judge things wrong because they do not the difference between right and wrong but sees it from their perspective which is often selfish and tries to judge everything as they don not have sense of respect or willingness to learn.
Children are lost in the world of TV commercials, computers, gadgets and brands, but left with on sense or moral , sad but true !!

Priyam
